This beautiful outdoor space allows audience members AND actors to stay completely socially distant!

Audition to be a part of our show!

*DEADLINE EXTENDED*: Submit your auditions by Sunday, September 20th at 11:59pm!

Auditions will be held via ONLINE SUBMISSION beginning NOW and ending SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th. Auditions are open to any students in Grades 3 through 12 (2nd with permission - email spotlightkidscompany@gmail.com). You may select any of the song selections (below) to submit a video of. Auditioners are allowed to sing TWO selections in ONE video. Record your videos with the KARAOKE tracks (no vocals).

Rehearsals will be held depending on the availability of cast members, so when filling out the form, please give detailed conflicts to the best of your ability for EVERY day of the week (this includes sports games AND practices, school concerts and other functions, family gatherings, etc. Conflicts WILL have an effect on the role you are cast in, and cast members will only be allotted TWO missed rehearsals or their role may be jeopardized). Students will not have more than three rehearsals a week.

The majority of vocal rehearsals will be held virtually via ZOOM. Dance and Blocking rehearsals will be held OUTSIDE, socially distant and masked, in Madison. Students will be lent their own costumes for the duration of tech week and shows and will be responsible for cleaning them.

Due to the state of our operations during the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures we have to take in ensuring safety and comfort, the fee for our musical will be $395. This will include the cost of rentals, costumes, props, sets, the director's time, and the license for the show. We understand that this is a large expense, so if financial assistance is needed, we will work with you to ensure that your student is able to participate. Scholarships and family discounts can be given if needed. We do not want any student to turn away due to finances!

Audition Materials

"Naughty"
Sing from 0:00 - 1:35
Sing from 0:00 - 1:38
Lyrics to Sing:
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water,
So they say the subsequent fall was inevitable
They never stood a chance, they were written that way.
Innocent victims of their story

Like Romeo and Juliet,
'Twas written in the stars before they even met,
That love and fate and a touch of stupidity
Would rob them of the hope of living happily,
The endings are often a little bit gory

I wonder why they didn't just change their story
We're told we have to do what we are told, but surely
Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty!
Lyrics to Sing (cont'd):
Just because you find that life's not fair,
It doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it,
If you always take it on the chin and wear it,
Nothing will change.

Even if you're little you can do a lot,
You mustn't let a little thing like "little" stop you,
If you sit around and let them get on top,
You might as well be saying you think that it's okay, and that's not right!
And if it's not right, you have to put it right!

"Quiet"
Sing from 1:23 - 3:36
Sing from 1:23 - 3:46
Lyrics to Sing:
Quiet
Like silence, but not really silent
Just that still sort of quiet
Like the sound of a page being turned in a book
Or a pause in a walk in the woods

Quiet
Like silence, but not really silent
Just that nice kind of quiet
Like the sound when you lie upside down in your bed
Just the sound of your heart in your head
Lyrics to Sing (cont'd):
And though the people around me
Their mouths are still moving
The words they are forming
Cannot reach me anymore

And it is quiet
And I am warm
Like I've sailed
Into the eye of the storm

"When I Grow Up"
Sing from 0:00 - 1:15
Sing from 0:00 - 1:13
Lyrics to Sing:
When I grow up
I will be tall enough to reach the branches
That I need to reach to climb the trees
You get to climb when you're grown up

And when I grow up
I will be smart enough to answer all
The questions that you need to know
The answers to, before you're grown up
Lyrics to Sing (cont'd):
And when I grow up
I will eat sweets everyday on the way to work
And I will go to bed late every night

And I will wake up
When the sun comes up
And I will watch cartoons until my eyes go square

And I won't care 'cause I'll be all grown up
When I grow up

"My House"
Sing from 1:15 - 2:40
Sing from 1:04 - 2:41
Lyrics to Sing:
On these walls I hang wonderful pictures

Through this window I can watch the seasons change
By this lamp I can read
And I, I am set free

And when it's cold outside
I feel no fear
Even in the winter storms
I am warmed
By a small but stubborn fire
There is nowhere I would rather be
Lyrics to Sing (cont'd):
It isn't much
But it is enough for me

It isn't much

But it is enough for me

For this is my house
This is my house
It isn't much
But it is enough for me

For this is my house
This is my house
It isn't much
But it is enough

"Telly"
Sing from 0:00 - 1:07
Sing from 0:00 - 1:01
Lyrics to Sing:
Somewhere, on a show I heard

That a picture tells a thousand words
So Telly, if you bothered to take a look,
Is the equivalent of like.....lots of books!

All I know I learnt from Telly,
This big beautiful box o' facts
If you know a thing already
Baby, you can switch the channel over just like that!

Endless joy and endless laughter,
Folks livin' 'appily ever after,
All you need to make you wise
Is twenty-three minutes plus advertisements!
Lyrics to Sing (cont'd):
Why would we waste our energy, turnin' the pages 1, 2, 3
When we can sit comfortably on our lovely bufferlees
Watching people singing, and talking, and doing stuff

All I know I learnt from Telly,
The bigger the telly the smarter the man!
You can tell from my big telly,
Just how clever a feller I am!

"The Hammer"
Sing from 0:42 - 1:58
Sing from 0:33 - 1:54
Lyrics to Sing:
As I stepped up to the circle
did I change my plan? Hmm... what?
As I chalked up my palms
did I wave my hands? I DID NOT!

As I started my spin
did I look at the view?
Did I drift off and dream
for a minute or two?

Do you think I faltered or amended my rotation?
Do you think I altered my intended elevation?
As the hammer took off did I change my grunt
From the grunt I had practiced for many a month?
Lyrics to Sing (cont'd):
Not a jot, not a dot did I stray from the plot

Not a detail of my throw was adjusted or forgotten
Not even when the hammer left my hands
And sailed up, up above the stands

Did I let myself go?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no...

No.

If you want to throw the hammer for your country,
You have to stay inside the circle all the time,
And if you want to make the team,
You dont need happiness or self-esteem,
You just need to keep your feet inside the line.

Some tips for self-taping...
  1. Film LANDSCAPE (horizontally).
  2. Use two devices to film - one to play the music and one to film with.
  3. Wear a formal outfit and look your best. Try to avoid crazy patterned clothes or looking disheveled. This may be our first impression of you!
  4. Use a plain background with no distractions.
  5. Introduce yourself with your full name, your age/grade, and what song you will be singing.
  6. Film your song a few times and find the take you are happiest with! Don't worry... there will be bloopers.
  7. Upload your final take to YouTube as an unlisted or private link - then take your link and paste it into the box in the Audition Form.
